I’ve just upgraded an old WordPress installation. After copying all the latest files over to my server I get the message “An automated WordPress update has failed to complete – please attempt the update again now”

Fortunately this is a very easy one to solve.

In the root directory of your WordPress install there is a file called .Maintenance – just delete it and you’re good to go.
